Spring will officially be here this month! Our team at Home Run Improvement has put together a list of a few great exterior spring cleaning tips to bring you comfort throughout the summer season!

Spring is the perfect time to give the exterior of your home a thorough cleaning to prevent damage, increase the lifespan of your home's exterior features, and enhance its curb appeal. By following these simple tips, you can keep your home in top condition and enjoy it for years to come.

Springtime To-Do List for the Exterior of Your Home:

Check Screens and Reinstall: Check each window and door screen for tears, holes, and other damage so you're ready to enjoy the spring breeze!

Inspect the Roof and Clean out Gutters: Ensure no shingles are missing from recent wind storms, and that all gutters and downspouts are clear of debris from fall leaves and debris. Check inside the gutters to see if granules are filled up from aged shingles. Home Run Improvement can provide free assessments of the roof age and replacement if needed.

Wash Windows and Screens: Including window sills and clean blinds. Inspect windows for replacement or repairs.

Pressure Wash the Siding on Your Home: Use a diluted form of Simple Green cleaner. Hot water can damage the siding. But for extensive residue, mix a general-purpose cleaner or one-part Simple Green Oxy outdoor cleaner and 15 parts water (about one cup per gallon of water) and load in a power washer. Be sure to start at the highest points of your home to avoid washing dirt down onto clean areas. If you plan on pressure washing your siding, do so BEFORE you wash the exterior windows, or you’ll just ruin what you just cleaned.

Power Wash the Deck: If you have a wood deck, inspect the wood for signs of rot or decay and make repairs as necessary. Sweep first, then scrub the wood with oxalic acid to kill microbes and re-stain the deck if needed. For composite decks, power wash to remove dirt, debris, and stains. For a concrete patio, check for chips or cracks that need repair and scrub away any stains. For any replacements, consider using Home Run Improvement.

By following these simple spring cleaning tips, you can keep your home in top condition and enjoy it for years to come. If your spring home preparation is beyond a little spring cleaning, Home Run Improvement is here to help.

Metal roofing has gone from a niche product to one of the most talked-about options in residential roofing over the last decade. You've probably seen it on newer builds, heard it mentioned by a neighbor, or come across it while researching a roof replacement. And then you ran into the price tag. That sticker shock is usually where the research stops — or where homeowners start looking for reasons to justify it. This guide doesn't do either. It gives you the honest metal roofing pros and cons and a clear framework for deciding whether it makes sense for your specific home in Louisville. What Is Metal Roofing? Before getting into pros and cons, it helps to understand that "metal roofing" covers several different products that perform and cost very differently. The two most relevant for residential homes in Louisville: Standing seam metal roofing — panels run vertically from ridge to eave with raised seams that interlock. No exposed fasteners. This is the premium option you see on high-end custom homes. It's what most people picture when they hear "metal roof." Metal shingles / stone-coated steel — metal panels shaped and coated to look like traditional shingles or tiles. Lower profile than standing seam, easier to retrofit, and less expensive. There's also corrugated metal — the classic ribbed panels more common on agricultural buildings and outbuildings. You'll occasionally see it on residential homes for a specific aesthetic, but it's not what most Louisville homeowners are evaluating. Standing Seam vs. Corrugated Metal Roof Since both come up in residential conversations, here's a direct comparison:
